Pokémon Unova Classic Guide (How To Dominate The Tournament)

As you probably know, the latest Pokémon tournament is Unova Classic. A triple battle tournament where only Pokémon up to the Unova region are allowed. (Excluding some typical legendaries) The tournament will be held from August 26th 2016 until August 28th 2016 and there’s a 15 battle per day limit. (All the details can be found here )

So what can we expect in this tournament?
First off, this is a triple battle tournament. A bracket that’s mildly confusing to some and is also not that popular. Meaning; more opportunity for you, BUT some new team building styles that you might not be used to. (Especially considering some moves can only hit a few Pokémon, from one side of the field to the other, etc..)

So here’s some tips on how to do well in this format:
– One thing that will be very common, is rain teams. So keep in mind that you will run into  lots of Politoeds, Ludicolos and Kingdras. Perhaps consider utilizing a Pokémon that can replace their rain with another weather condition. (Drought, Sand Stream, etc..) You could even just give a random Pokémon Sunny Day, Sandstorm or Hail. (Sunny Day is safer, because you don’t want to get hit by your own weather condition)
– Another good way of dealing with rain teams, is utilizing an electric Pokémon (like Zapdos). Electric Pokémon get a boost from the rain and can take out pesky rain-based Pokémon like Politoed and other water types.
– You always want a Pokémon with Wide Guard (for all those multi-target moves)
– Try to have a Pokémon with Intimidate, Fake Out and Eject Button. This way, the Pokémon can use its intimidate ability, Fake Out, escape with the Eject Button and then do it allover again. (Try to make this Pokémon relatively bulky so that it can abuse this technique for as long as possible)
– Use multi-target moves to your advantage. Surf, muddy water, heat wave, earthquake.. They’re all very valuable moves.
– Utilize Tailwind. It works just as well here as in doubles.
– Test out multiple team options by using third party software like Pokémon Showdown. This way, you can create the perfect team before putting all the time (or money) into building your team.

We hope this list was useful to you! If you don’t feel like training a whole new team just for this one tournament, but still want to compete at the higher levels, you can always buy your competitively-ready Pokémon here at PokéPure. Good Luck!
